This chronic skin disorder affects both females and males and occurs in different patterns. Androgenetic alopecia is a male-pattern type of baldness that is more common than others and is defined by the hairline regressing as the hair loss continues on top of the scalp. Getting a Grip on Hair Loss with Natural Remedies

Posted by RichBLoading...: 2008-10-14 10:23:02

One amazing hair trivia is that there are 100,000-150,000 hair follicles and hairs in the average scalp. Each hair can grow to about 1.25 cm each month When the resting hair falls out, a new hair starts to grow in its place. It is normal for about 100 hair strands to fall with every passing day.

Factors like health, nutrition and stress, however, may create hair loss, signaling that proper hair care measures are needed.
Excessive hair loss may be caused by undue strain like constant pulling and chemical treatments. Recuperation from an illness or major surgery, giving birth, and/or ... more

Alopecia Areata

Posted by JohnMLoading...: 2008-08-10 17:31:23

What is it?

Alopecia Areata (AA) is defect of the autoimmune system that is responsible for the non-scarring hair loss condition on any surface of the body. The process is usually activated by the T-cell even though the antibodies of the hair follicles are visible in majority of the patients. These are approximately 90% with AA, in comparison to the 37% of the normal conditions. The AA affects the outermost cover of the hair follicle. It makes the tiny cup structure with the antibodies affecting the inner sheath of the roots and develops to the matrix, then later to the hair shaft.

Traction Alopecia

Posted by SethMLoading...: 2008-07-29 13:16:37

Traction alopecia is another term for tension hair loss, which is a condition in men and women. Treatment is available for the condition; the person just needs to change the hair care routine. The hairstyle must undergo a change as well to avoid tension on the hair.

The Cause of Traction Alopecia

The technical name for tension hair loss is Traction alopecia. The condition simply refers to localized hair loss because of damage done to the roots of the hair. The damage occurs due to tight and constant pulling of hair in one direction. The hair eventually starts to thin around points of ... more

Hair Color and Hair Loss

Posted by JohnMLoading...: 2008-04-12 13:56:41

I read just yesterday that more and more men are coloring their hair. The article next to this one was about the increase in hair loss being reported at earlier ages. A connection?

I am no doctor, but it seems to me that the more color and chemicals placed on the hair, the more damage that is going to be done to the hair. For a man that will eventually lose his hair anyway, this harsh treatment looks like it may shorter the time period between a healthy head of hair and a head of no hair.

I have an opinion on this topic. men should not color their hair, especially if it is already ... more

Hair Loss and Chlorine

Posted by summerbanksLoading...: 2008-03-18 01:22:01

The time has come again to take those covers off the pool and get ready for summer time. When spring hits, especially for those of us in the warmer climates, life is all about chlorine and pool chemicals.

But, what can those chemicals do to the hair that is being affected by alopeica? The thinner the hair the more apt the follicle will be to be damaged. Especially in people who are more likely to have hair loss or who are already experiencing hair loss.

An alternative, salt water pools. Better on the skin and the hair follicle.

Hair Loss and Hats

Posted by RichBLoading...: 2008-03-18 00:46:48

For the longest time I remember my mom telling me that my hat would cause hair loss. I wore my hat from the time I woke up in the morning until the time I went to bed at night.

As I grew older and began to lose my hair, I decided to find out whether or not my mom was right.

Guys, 95% of hair loss is caused by heredity. That leaves 5% of the world to claim something other, like wearing a hat.

It is very unlikely that hair loss is caused by wearing a hat, but a hat can pull out the hair more rapidly during a period of non growth causing the hair loss to look more profound.

How Many Do We Lose?

Posted by RichBLoading...: 2008-03-08 02:21:46

Hair loss, or alopecia, is a condition that affects both women and men, usually in mid-to-late adulthood.

Some hair loss is normal, ranging between the loss of 50-180 hairs per day. Other instances may be indicators of health issues such as poor nutrition, or, as with ‘male pattern baldness’, just genetic luck of the draw.

Thinning hair and hair loss is quite common and it is growing more recognized at a younger age every year. Those little hairs add up and when you start to lose them, noticing can be a tough situation.

Talk to your doctor about hair loss treatments that may be able ... more
