Never Too Late to Vaccinate

National Vaccination Week is set on Dec. 8-14. If for some reason, you miss it. Please get one as soon as you can. It's not too late to protect yourself and your families against this highly contagious (possibly fatal) disease. Especially if you have babies who are too young to get vaccinated (younger than 6 months). Their best chance is to have everyone around them vaccinated. Each year, about 20,000 children younger than 5 years of age are hospitalized in the U.S. because of flu complications. I won't risk it and neither should you. more

Even after doing everything you possibly can to avoid it, you can still get the flu. You might have had a flu shot, washed your hands often, and stayed away from crowded places, it may still catch up with you. Believe it, it's happened to me. Even when you've been vaccinated, there are no guarantees you won't get it. It is still a very good idea to take precautions to protect you and your family.
Among the most note-worthy include:
-- Good hand washing
-- Not sharing eating utensils and drinking cups
-- Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
-- Disposing of used tissues
-- Avoiding large crowds if possible
-- Avoiding people with the flu whenever possible. If not possible, keep it to a minimum.

I'm a believer of getting flu shots yearly. When I was a kid, I'd always get a flu during the flu season -- which is from November to April. Then my mom would fret because I'd be missing a few days of classes. Certain people need it more than others. And that includes those with chronic medical conditions, pregnant women, health care workers, and people over 50 years old. I need to get it every year since the viruses in the vaccine change each year.
About 2 weeks after vaccination, I develop the antibodies that provide protection against the influenza virus infection in the body. Isn't ... more
