Why is it that people allow themselves to be addicted to sadness? My mother committed suicide a year ago, Christmas and my family has been lost for the last 12 months. A new study in neurology is hoping to place a link between abnormal brain function and addiction. In the study an MRI was used to look for any abnormalities in the part of the brain that makes decisions.

Researchers are hoping a link between brain function and dependency on tobacco, heroin, marijuana and alcohol will lead researchers to new and better treatment options.

The researchers found a link between brain function and addiction and it seems that the younger the individual is when they begin using an addictive substance the more likely they are to become addicted.

Can the Smell of Smoke Lead Quitters to Regain the Habit?

According to the November issue of Addiction Magazine, people who have quit smoking are no more likely to regain the habit of smoking by smelling another person's smoke and those who never smoked.

Researchers tested people who quit smoking by alluring them with the smell of cigarette smoke. In the study people found the smoke appealing were no more likely to start smoking again than those who did not find the smoke appealing.
