Side effects from Taking Antidepressants

Posted by BeaLoading...: 2008-12-14 21:26:43

At times, it's trial-and-error. There are adjustments done to determine what kind of medication treatment plan is appropriate for you. My concern is that side-effects, though not totally eradicated, should be kept to a minimum. At the same time, the effectiveness of the treatment also should not be compromised.

Factors include the type of medication and your personal response to these medications. Side effects vary from nausea, dizziness, diarrhea/constipation, sleep problems, weight loss or gain, dry mouth, sexual health problems, to anxiety. I worked with my doctor to come up with ... more

Living Life One Scare at a Time

Posted by LyleLoading...: 2008-12-08 12:33:39

Living with a fear of something that overcomes you is a horrible way to live. Life becomes defined by the phobias and fears we have and that is not the way life should be. There is hope for people who had irrational fears and that hope may lie on the couch or in the mind.

There are two common methods of dealing with phobias. The first is psychiatry or psychology. These mental sciences are there to listen when we need to talk and prescribe medication when we need help to ward off the anxiety feelings. Do men carry a commitment-phobia gene?

Posted by BeaLoading...: 2008-09-07 02:19:34

I've blogged before that I'm dealing with social phobia. It's very real to me and I carry it with me everyday. That's why I have to say that I was amused by an article from the Los Angeles Times reporting that a gene linked to commitment-phobia had been identified.

Researchers at the Karolinksa Institute in Sweden found that a a gene named allele 334 has been found to effect the production of a hormone called vasopressin which is supposed to be responsible for monogamy in animals. ... more

Most families have doctors who are general practitioners and who are the warm, fuzzy types; we have a shrink. There's no one that qualifies as clinical crazy. I'd like to call it heightened idiosyncrasies. My dad has a phobia to dogs; my mom is scared of flying; my sister faints at the sight of a needle; and I fear tight enclosed spaces. Our shrink explained to us that phobias do run in families. Why can't it just be extremely good looks, I've often asked myself. :) When faced with the object of fear, I feel anxious; sometimes a fullblown panic attack happens. I avoid elevators, narrow ... more

Dealing with Social Phobia

Posted by BeaLoading...: 2008-08-11 21:04:48

When I was 18, I had a bad experience while riding a plane alone on my way to my dad's house in New York. There was plenty of turbulence and well, that was when I had my first panic attack. Since then, this fear of social situations had come and gone and ranged in severity. In college, I had trouble eating in public and speaking in class, among other situations. School was my turf, it was one thing I was sure I was good at. I knew then that the fear wasn't going away. After a year, I had dropped out, moved back to my mom's house and almost never left it. I've been seeing someone to help me ... more
